Editor´s note: The following post comes from Malin Svensson, tech talent recruiter at Avuteq.
Yesterday was a super exciting day for start-ups in Barcelona! Betahaus held its BETAPITCH competition, and we got to see 8 competitors do their best to pitch their idea to win a trip to the final stage of the BETAPITCH competition in Berlin in August. A jury with an eye for detail asked piercing questions, the obligatory "How are you going to make money?" and plenty others which really made me think of what else is under the hood.
My personal favourite was Dubble, a photo app which let´s you mix your pictures with other Dubble users from all over the world, creating brand new works of art. A very interesting opportunity there for brands to connect with their customers. Dubble were recognized as the "runner up" in the competition and will also make it to Berlin. Look forward to when the Android version arrives!
The winner was Thingthing, a keyboard in your iPhone which helps you speed up work "on the go", by allowing you to write emails, send pictures, add attachments etc without leaving the app you´re currently using.
The Thingthing pitch.
A special mention also went to Watly, a project involved in infrastructure which brings clean water, electricity and connectivity to a large number of users via their platform which is assembled on-site. Still at an early stage but will be interesting to see how this develops!
All the contestants and contributors.
Betahaus is a cool place with a lot of cool people, it made for a great evening connecting with people in the industry. If you haven´t yet been to your first start-up event then by all means get yourself out there!
If you are a seasoned event goer it would be great to hear your thoughts on start-ups and tech events, which ones do you go to and what value do they add?
Will social media recruitment beat traditional recruitment?
